Jean Lorraine Polimeni
February 27, 1937 - February 20, 2015
- Jean Lorraine Gillespie was born February 27th, 1937 in Toronto, Ontario and was the youngest of 4 siblings - all brothers, namely Ray, Billy and Ross, who pre-deceased her. In 1961, she met a handsome fellow on a blind date. Love blossomed thereafter and in September 1963, she married John Polimeni. On September 7th, 1964 they welcomed a son - Mark John Polimeni. He was to be their only child. The Polimenis shared a love of music and were especially big jazz lovers. They would often go to all the famous Jazz nightclubs of the time and saw many famous musicians. Mr. Polimeni was a part time drummer who played in a band where Jean would often go to see him play. Sadly, life threw her an un-expected curve ball - Jean became a widow December 10th, 1996 and never quite recovered from the loss of her beloved. Their son followed in his father's footsteps and became a drummer also. Often times, he and his friends would get together to play in the basement of the family home. She always said of Mark's musician friends…." I have more than just 1 son, I have them as well “. Jean and John were VERY close to Mark's friends and welcomed them into their home always. They felt very lucky that Mark had so many good friends that cared about him as much as they did.
- They put up with the ‘noisy’ musicians week after week when they rehearsed at the house, but NEVER complained because they were happy to have them there and loved any kind of music floating through the house. Jean loved to laugh - the Big Bang Theory was one of her favourite shows. She enjoyed crime shows, old movies and scratch cards. She gave to many charities and was always eager to offer her love, support and prayers whenever/wherever needed. She had a kind heart and a tender soul. She could be funny as well, which you may not expect. She would say "Don't worry about me, I'll get by" if you returned from a trip empty handed as her first question would always be "What you'd bring me?" And would ask "And how are you this evening?" and once you'd responded, she would say, "I'm sufficient, thank you." "Oh my goodness" would ring out when life surprised her. And when affection was bestowed upon her, she'd say "Don't kiss me, you'll wear out my lips!" but would only charge a quarter for each kiss until she had to increase it to fifty cents to allow for the cost of living. After struggling with a lengthy illness, God took her home February 20th one week before her 78th birthday. A light has gone out in the world but God has an Angel at His side.
