With heavy hearts and love, we announce the passing of Janis Lee McKenna, who left this world peacefully on November 19, 2025, after fighting cancer with the strength, determination, and fierce spirit that defined her life. Even during her most difficult moments, she found ways to laugh, love, and uplift those around her with positivity. Her courage will remain a testament to the extraordinary woman she was.
Janis leaves behind her devoted husband, Sam Castillo Jr, who stood by her with love throughout their life together. She shared a uniquely special bond with her sister Roxi, a relationship filled with treasured memories.
Janis was predeceased by her father, James McKenna and by her sister Sarah, both respectfully remembered as part of her family. She is further survived by her mother, Sharon McKenna; her sister, Rachel; and her many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by them and remembered fondly. Janis will also be deeply missed by the Acosta and Bautista/Castillo families, her beloved mother-in-law, Francisca, and father-in-law, Sam Sr, with whom she shared a close relationship filled with joy.
She will be fondly remembered by her many friends and Coca-Cola family, those who shared her love of music, food and travel, all of whom cherished her warmth and zest for life.
A cat lover and devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, Janis attended spring training in Florida many times and The World Series, delighting in every moment, filled with sunshine and excitement of being close to the team she adored.
Janis was beautiful, athletic and driven, always striving for the best in all her pursuits. She will be remembered for her kindness, loyalty, and the genuine way she made all types of people feel truly seen and valued. Her soul was fearless and will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kevin Kalinsky, MD, Professor and Director in the Division of Medical Oncology of the Department of Hematology and Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. His compassion and dedication meant to Janis and her family more than words can express.
