James Sydney Fearman was born in Oakville on December 30, 1947, and passed away at Providence Health on October 1, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with lung disease.
Predeceased by his parents Sydney George Fearman and Mary Chickering Blake Fearman (Oakville) he is survived by his beloved wife Moira Dean Fearman, children Charles Dean, Claire Dean (Jason Kilcan) and grandsons Benton and Logan Kilcan, also sisters Frances Cushing (Bob), Elizabeth Bischoff (Ingo) and brother Doug Fearman (Terry) and nieces and nephews Stephen Cushing, Kevin Cushing (April), Erika Bischoff, Heidi Bathum (Dale) and Carolyn Fearman.
Jim attended Appleby College in Oakville (1956-66). With an affinity for mathematics and a curiosity to know how things worked, it was no surprise that he studied civil engineering at McGill University & Ryerson. He spent his entire career in the construction industry, and his work lives on through various buildings in Toronto, including the Chemistry building on U of T campus, a civil works project in the grounds of Sunnybrook and multiple condominiums in the downtown core. He had a strong work ethic and didn’t retire until his early seventies. It is poignant that he was admitted to ICU in critical condition on Labour Day, celebrated to honor the labour movement and workers' contributions to society. A hallmark of his working life is that he always treated the workers on site with fairness and respect.
From a very young age, Jim had a love of the outdoors which became a constant throughout his life. Jim loved sailing in his younger years and his beloved cottage in Muskoka where he spent as much time as he could, puttering around, fixing and improving things over the years and taking great pride in his gardens.
Jim was an animal lover who bred dogs and always had a companion by his side (Brutus, Max, Austin & Quincy).
The family would like to thank the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at Providence Health, Temmy Latner and NYGH for their diligent care.
A private burial will take place at St. Jude’s Cemetery, Oakville with a Celebration of Life to be held later.
Donations may be made in Jim’s memory to Providence Healthcare Foundation in lieu of flowers.
