John David Huddart (David) of Etobicoke, Ontario passed away at Trillium Health Centre, peacefully and surrounded by his family, on Friday, July 12, 2013 at the age of 82 after many months of illness.
He was born in Toronto to Edna Irene (née Brackley) and James Melbourne Huddart in 1930. After graduating from the University of Toronto in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and business, David left home to work in Bradford and Liverpool, UK as a graduate apprentice for English Electric.
After his return from England, David met his wife-to-be, Barbara Dorothy (née Morgan). Following their marriage in 1960, they moved to Etobicoke where their four children, Steven, Margot (Douglas) Sutherland, Christopher J. (Pam Collison) and Patrice (Edward) Hornibrook, were born and raised. They have seven grandchildren: Sophie, Simon, Madeleine, Evelyn, Eleanor, Michael and Meagan who live in the United States and the UK. David was uncle to his older sister Marion's (Alfred Dougan) five children, Hayes, Maureen, James, Rosemary and Cathy. David was, first and foremost, a family man. Although his career at Inglis, Clarkson Gordon, and Signode took him across Canada and around the world, his favourite place was with his family, either here in Ontario or his beloved Cape Breton. When he wasn't busy fixing broken toys or maintaining kids' dirt bikes he loved to relax by woodworking, designing and building furniture, and painting with acrylics. He enjoyed cross-country skiing, tennis, sailing and relaxing at the cottage. David was a loving husband to Barbara, a thoughtful father and a great role model to his children, a cheerful grandfather, and a supportive uncle. He was an honourable gentleman with a positive and energetic outlook. His spirit lives on in the pursuits, hearts and memories of his family and friends. Visititation will be held at THE SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL CENTRE, 1535 South Gateway Rd., Mississauga (Dixie Rd., 2 lights south of Eglinton Ave., 905-602-1580) on Sunday, July 21, 2013 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. with a Funeral Service to follow at 2 p.m. Private Cremation. J. David Huddart was kindly and compassionately cared for during the last year of his life at the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga.
