Ida (Naccarato) Gallo was born November 22, 1933, in Belsito, in the Province of Cosenza, Italy. Her parents were Michelina and Domenico Naccarato. Her siblings, beginning with the eldest were Joseph, Rosina, Frank, Elda, Tony, and Emma. She died peacefully in Oshawa, Ontario, January 24, 2014 at the age of 80.

Her children are Frank, Rose, Domenic, Lina and David. Her grandchildren are Shane, Ian, Sarah, Rachel, Malachi, Samuel, Gabrielle, Jesse and Hannah.

Ida and her family lived in Calabria, Italy, in a simple one room house and worked the land as farmers. Their neighbors were the Gallo family, with whom their second oldest son Giovanni she married in Toronto, 1953, after immigrating to Canada.

They had literally known each other from childhood and were married 60 years until Giovanni’s passing December 22, 2013. They worked very hard together to help with their large families and raise their own children under sometimes very trying circumstances. Ida is well known for her indomitable character and strength of will, especially during times of sickness with her husband and herself. She will be remembered as being the staple that truly held the family together through those very trying circumstances.

Ida had a witty, playful and sometimes sarcastic sense of humor that most enjoyed and surprised all. Loving, hardworking and caring - the ultimate mother - and not just for her children but to all who got to be friends with her. So much so, they would simply call her ‘Momma’. Generous and hospitable, many will remember evenings for dinner at the Gallo home, where portions were always huge and the inevitable question, “Do you want some more?” would always come from the mischievous and endearing Ida. And to put it plainly, she had the most accurate throwing arm ever when it came to cork sandals and misbehaving children and cousins, and sometimes their friends!

As a Jehovah’s Witness, she loved the truths found in the bible and the joy of having so many friends over the years that were developed with her faith. She believed in a resurrection hope as promised in the bible, where she will enjoy life again on a restored earth, surrounded by loved ones aplenty.

She will be sorely missed.
