Howie Lem, born July 1st 1941, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of memories cherished by those who knew and loved him.
At the age of 14, he immigrated from Taishan with his grandparents, beginning a new chapter marked by courage, sacrifice, and determination. As a young man, Howie worked tirelessly at a laundromat, learning early the value of hard work and responsibility. With an entrepreneurial spirit and determination to build a better future, he also opened and owned his own restaurant, an endeavor that reflected both his courage and commitment to providing for his family. He later spent many years as a taxi driver, navigating long days and late nights in support of those he loved. Through dedication and skill, he went on to build a career as a technician at Litton Systems, where he worked faithfully until his retirement.
Howie was a man of steady character and quiet resilience. He lived through changing times with strength and grace, always placing the needs of his loved ones first. Those who knew him will remember his warmth, wisdom, and the dependable presence he provided.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wayee; his beloved daughter, Teresa (David); and his son, Ted (Jenny). He was a proud grandfather to Stephanie (Matthew), Ryan (Joanna), Samantha (Brian), and Angelina, and a devoted great-grandfather to his great-grandson, James. His family was the center of his world, and he took immense pride in their lives and accomplishments.
After years of hard work and dedication, Howie embraced retirement as a time to fully enjoy the people and simple pleasures he loved most. He found peace in tending to his garden, excitement in trying his luck at the casino, joy in travelling to new places, and above all, happiness in spending cherished time surrounded by his family.
Howie’s journey—from a young immigrant with humble beginnings to a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather—stands as a testament to his perseverance and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
