Howard Frank Boulton
June 11, 1919 - May 30, 2013
Boulton, Howard Frank
Passed away on Thursday, 30 May 2013, in his 94th year, after an extended battle with cancer. Devoted husband to Ethel (Ryan) Boulton and loving father of David (Janis), Robert (Lisa), and Shirley Winter (David). Proud grandfather of Jennifer Fortier (Rob), Chris Boultanyshen (Andrea), Calvin, Ryan, and Grace Winter, Scott and William Boulton and great grandfather of Grace Fortier and Emily and Owen Stefanyshen. Devoted brother-in-law to Mary Ryan and loving uncle, great uncle, and great-great uncle to many nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his sister Winnifred in 2012. Howard was born on 11 June, 1919, to English immigrants Leonard and Gertrude Boulton in East York, Ontario. After graduating from East York Collegiate, he joined the RCAF in 1939 and was attached to the 417th squadron, with which he was stationed in North Africa. He was later reassigned to the RAF’s Bomber Command, operating out of Britain until 1944. Howard and Ethel were married in 1947, and he enjoyed many years in a successful career as a sales engineer in commercial refrigeration. Upon his retirement in 1984, he discovered his immense talent for woodcarving, and he created countless beautiful carved birds and reliefs which will provide his family and friends with a permanent reminder of his artistry, his patience and his gentleness. It was during his retirement that he also was able to participate in his grandchildren’s lives as they grew up, which was the great joy of his life. Howard will be remembered for his incredible love for his wife, children and grandchildren, the immense pride he took in all that his descendants accomplished and for always being a consummate gentleman. One would be hard-pressed to find another who took so much pleasure in his family. The funeral service will be held on Monday, 3 June, at 4:00 PM (Pine Hills Visitation Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Toronto) followed by a reception for friends and family with visitation on Saturday, 1 June from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, and on Monday, 3 June from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. Private family interment will follow at a later date. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Howard’s memory may be made to The War Amps of Canada by going online to www.waramps.ca/donation/honour.html. The family would also like to thank the staff of the palliative care unit at The Scarborough Hospital.
