He was the eldest of six brothers and sisters. As the eldest son, father was responsible for taking care of his younger siblings. From a young age, he started working in order to help reduce the financial burden on his family, thus did not have chance to go to school. But as he grew older, he would take every opportunity to learn. During the day, Father would go to work and, at night, he would attend night school. Later he became an apprentice renovator and chef. Home renovation and culinary art became his life skills and loves. His friends knew him as one who was always eager to help cook a meal or fix a leaking tap. Even though living a busy life, Father had a lot of interests. He loved reading, painting, photography, listening to music, and building electronic equipment.

Father and mother first met in the school. They lost contact after he left school. Yet, a few years later, they met again and started dating. They soon fell in love and were married in November 1969. My parents worked hard in order to support me and my sister who were studying in Canada. In 1997, they immigrated to Canada where they enjoyed their retirement life with their two children and four grandchildren. Although in retirement, Father was still keen on cooking and home renovation.

Father was an optimistic person. In 2011, he was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma and received treatment. The treatment lasted six months and was effective. Except for some minor side effects, he was still strong and healthy. However, this September, his cancer relapsed and spread to the liver. During the treatment of his second cancer, at the encouragement of friends and relatives, he was baptized to Christ on December 17th. Religion helped father to face the final stages of life, with faith and strength. Though seriously ill, he remained calm and at peace. In the morning of December 25th, he passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side, at the age of seventy-four.

In his life, Father believed in love, loyalty, and helping his family and friends. His spirit of self-sacrifice aspires us all to give our best.
