Henry Tang passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, at the age of 85.

Henry was born in 1940 in Hoi Ping, Guangdong Province, China, one of four children alongside his older brother Yuk, younger brother Gordon, and youngest sister Winnie. His childhood was shaped by hardship and resilience — his mother was imprisoned when he was only nine years old, and amid the upheaval of China’s revolution, his family lost their home and belongings, leaving the siblings to rely on one another and extended family to get by. In 1950, the family relocated to Guangzhou, where Henry spent several formative years. In 1957, sponsored by relatives, he immigrated on his own to Hong Kong to pursue his high school education — the beginning of a lifelong journey defined by determination and hard work. In Hong Kong, Henry pursued a variety of career paths, and it was there that he met and married his wife, Bo Yuet.

Years later, in the 1970s, as unrest unfolded in Hong Kong as well, Henry made the decision to immigrate once again — this time to Canada, in search of a new beginning. In Canada, he went on to serve as General Manager for restaurants in Toronto’s Chinatown, before later becoming an entrepreneur and opening a bookstore together with Bo Yuet.

Henry is survived by his loving wife, Bo Yuet Tang, his children Tina (Phillip Chiu), Anna (Eric Wong), Louis (Mondana Tang), and Alex (Rebecca Tang), and his grandchildren Jacob, Bailey, Corey, Benjamin, and Norah, all of whom he loved dearly.

Henry will be remembered for his joy of life, his resilience and determination to build a better life for his family, and the quiet strength he carried from his earliest years in China through to his life in Canada. He was known for being personable and funny, with a warmth that let him to get along with anyone he meets. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
