It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Helena Baliko, who left us peacefully in her sleep at home on November 28, 2025. Helena was born on February 26, 1943, in Bapska, Croatia, to her loving parents Stjepan and Katarina Rukovanjski. She was the second youngest of ten siblings, all of whom have since passed away.
In the late 1960s, driven by hope and determination, Helena immigrated to Toronto at the age of 26, in search of a more prosperous and fulfilling life. It was here that her journey truly blossomed. Shortly after arriving, she met—and later married—the love of her life, Frank Baliko, on July 17, 1971, and together they built a beautiful life rooted in devotion, hard work, and family. She was a cherished mother to her two children, Wendy and Frank Jr., who continue to carry forward her strength, values, and gentle spirit.
A devoted Catholic, Helena kept her faith in God close to her heart throughout her entire life. Her belief provided her with strength, comfort, and guidance, and she passed those values on to her family through her example of kindness, humility, and gratitude.
Helena found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an exceptional cook and baker whose meals brought warmth to every gathering. She loved tending to her garden, nurturing it with care and patience. Some of her happiest moments were spent at the cottage, especially while fishing and enjoying the peace of nature.
Helena was known for her warm personality and joyful spirit. She loved to laugh, share stories, and spend endless hours talking with her friends and family, staying connected to those she cared about most. Her conversations were filled with love, humour, and honesty—traits that made her presence so deeply cherished.
Above all, Helena devoted herself to her family and friends. Her children were her greatest pride, and she created a home filled with love, kindness, stability, and unwavering support. Her gentle presence, selflessness, and quiet strength touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Helena’s memory will forever remain a blessing to her family and all who were touched by her gentle presence. She will be deeply missed and eternally loved.
May she rest in God’s eternal peace.
