Hazel “Geesje” Siderius (nee Koops)
December 9, 1939 – August 25, 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Hazel Siderius (nee Koops) announce her passing on Monday, August 25, 2025 at the age of 85.
Hazel was born in Beilen, Nederland on Dec. 9, 1939 to Jan and Maria Koops. With a shining spirit and fun personality, she spent her early years with siblings Ralph, Anne and Wilma. The family immigrated to Canada in 1949, planting roots in Woodstock, Ontario where Hazel’s youngest brother Harry was born. Hazel developed her core belief in hard work early, starting with helping out on the family farm. Years later, Hazel responded to an ad in the Calvinist Contact, which led her to a man in Snelgrove, Ontario named Andrew Siderius. They were together for 59 years, married for 56 years, and settled down at 32 Sunset Blvd. for 54 years. She loved being surrounded by God’s nature and spent much time watching it through the big front living room window.
During these years, Hazel was deeply involved in volunteering, especially with Holland Christian Homes from its beginning and with the ladies auxiliary at dinners for John Knox Christian School. Volunteering was a passion, and she always helped where there was a need.
Hazel was a loving mother to her three children, Marvin, Mark, and Maria. She was fully involved in their activities. She would open her home to any social gathering, whether it was just for a cup of coffee or her delicious soup with meatballs and buns! Many gatherings were enjoyed with friends and family, even if just in the backyard. We are truly blessed to know how many lives she touched and how freely she shared her beautiful smile and warm hugs.
Hazel had a deep faith in Jesus Christ our Lord, in her own quiet way. This was evident in her actions and daily life. And now, in death, He has welcomed her home.
Hazel will lovingly be remembered by her husband Andrew Siderius; siblings Ralph Koops (Anne), Anne Vanderziel (predececed by Al), Wilma Sol (Clarence), and Harry Koops (Beth); children Marvin Siderius (Linda), Mark Siderius (Sharon), and Maria Siderius; grandchildren Alexander Miller, Trenton Miller, Dominic Miller, Esther Siderius, Joshua Siderius, Anna Siderius, and Eden Siderius; great-grandson Ryker Miller, and many other relatives, friends, and neighbours.
Visitation will be held on Thursday Sept. 4 from 5:30 - 8:00PM at Meadowvale Funeral Centre, 7732 Mavis Rd., Brampton.
