Harry Lutgens, after living a full life in Netherlands and Canada, passed away at the age of 89 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on December 20, 2025.

Hendrik, or Harry as many knew him, was born in Geleen, Netherlands to Antoinette and Hennes Lutgens. They had 7 children. Harry was the last living child of the family, after losing his youngest brother, Hup, and his older sister, Miep, earlier this year. The three of them, all being the youngest in the family were known as ‘de drie kleintjes’ or ‘the three little ones.’

Harry met the love of his life, Denyse, in his early twenties and married in 1960 here in Toronto. After his parents travelled by boat to Canada in 1959 to spend time visiting North America and to meet Denyse.

Hendrik has two daughters Louise and Carolyn. He was very proud of his daughters, they both meant the world to him. He was equally fond of his son-in-laws, the ‘two Mikes’ as he would say.

Harry’s favourite role was that as grandparent to Isabelle, Sebastien and Jack. He treasured his time with his grandkids and loved being their Opa. Always bragging to his family abroad about their achievements.

Hendrik will always be remembered for his generosity and kindness, and the way that he was always willing to give a friend or family member a hand. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

Harry is survived by his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. We’ll always imagine hearing him say ‘schatje’ meaning ‘dearest’ to his loved ones. We will miss him every day.
