張靄韶先生 Harry Chong
February 17, 1932 - April 25, 2015
CHONG, Harry
With great sadness, the family of Harry Chong announce his passing at the age of 83 peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Beloved husband to Joyce of 61 years and a proud father to Ken (Ingrid), Steven, Kathleen (Peter) and Rex (Noreen). Adored grandfather to Ryan, Barry, Braden, Jason, Melissa, Megan and Marcus. His large extended family of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends will remember him for his generosity, fondness for tropical flowers and appreciation for the simple things in life. Born in 1932 and raised in his family village of Hoi Ping, China, Harry emigrated to Toronto in 1950 to continue the farm operation of his grandfather and father. In 1962, he relocated to Huttonville. With hard work and determination, Harry and Joyce built a successful market gardening business. A variety of vegetables were produced to serve the Chinese community of restaurants and stores in the GTA. After selling the family farm and retiring in 2003, Harry continued to tend to his garden of vegetables and flowers in his back yard with enthusiasm and pride. He also was known for his artistic penmanship in Chinese calligraphy. Visitation will be held at Mount Pleasant Visitation Centre, 375 Mt Pleasant Road, Toronto [east gate entrance] on Thursday April 30, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. The family will receive guests on Friday May 1, 2015 at 9:30 am. Service begins at 10:30 am in the chapel. Interment will take place after the service. Reception to follow. A special thank you to the Community Care Access Centre for their assistance in coordinating and providing support services. Memorial donations can be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care.
