It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Stoodley of Bramalea, Ontario.
At 90 years old Harold lived a life as vibrant and layered as the canvases he painted. A man of many chapters-artist, athlete and coach-his greatest role was that of devoted family man. He was the beloved husband of Arlene for 66 wonderful years; a partnership built on love and devotion.
Harold was born on November 25, 1935, in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. He was one of 11 children born to Effie (Piercy) and Raymond Edward Stoodley. He is predeceased by his sisters and brothers Sheila, Edward, Ron, Max, Frank, Roy, Pauline and Diane and is survived by brothers Henry and David.
In his younger days, Harold was known for his grit playing sports and strength in the boxing ring. As the years passed, he traded his skates for golf clubs and his gloves for a paintbrush, becoming a mainstay at the Regency Racquet Club and a talented artist.
Above all his hobbies, Harold's greatest gift was always his time. He was a devoted father to Scott and Lisa, and his kids grew up with a Dad who was "all in"-from cross-country skiing through the woods, attending art school to building ice rinks in the backyard and playing endless games of "500-up " at the diamond to coaching Chinguacousy girls and boys minor baseball.
As Papa to Mathew, Cassie, and Santiago, he continued that tradition of presence. Mathew and Santiago will especially treasure the quiet moments of their time fishing together where the lessons learned were far more important than the fish they caught.
That same devotion made him the heart of the neighbourhood, where he was cherished as a 'bonus dad' to everyone on the block. He was a devoted brother who never missed a card game with his siblings and a beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
He cherished his winters in Florida alongside Arlene, and the Irish crew. Spending his days fishing, card games, home cooked meals and singing songs under the tiki hut.
Harold taught us that a life well-lived isn't measured by what you keep, but by the time you give away. He will be deeply missed by Arlene, Scott, Lisa and his cherished grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of beauty, sportsmanship, and unconditional love.
