Gwen Hewitt passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on December 17, 2025
in her 100th year.
She was born in Mandeville, Manchester Parish, Jamaica in 1926.
Predeceased by her parents Christopher and Elvira Hewitt, brother Gilbert, sisters,
Lynnette, Beryl, Pearl, Kathleen and Hortense. Gwen is survived by her sister
Myrtle Hewitt of Jacksonville Florida.
Gwen trained as a registered nurse in England and immigrated to Canada in the
1960s to begin her career. She specialized in paediatric nursing and spent many
years working at Sick Kids Hospital in downtown Toronto. Her love of travel took
her to many places, including Italy, Greece, Turkey, Jamaica and the US. She was
a beloved member and elder of Westview Presbyterian Church in East York for
over 35 years. Gwen spent her last years happily living in Delmanor Wynford,
Toronto.
Gwen will be dearly missed by her sister Myrtle, nephew Trevor Harris (Jennifer),
niece Joy Harris, nephew Paul O’Connor, Goddaughter Jan Campbell (Jonathan
and Isaiah), Great nephews and nieces Grace, Noah, Ava, Logan and Perri, dear
friends Glen and Cathy Callon and their family, and her loving caregiver Rebecca
Kabugi.
Thank you to the staff at Delmanor Wynford, Mosaic Homecare, Rebecca Kabugi and the palliative
care unit at Providence Healthcare in Scarborough for the wonderful care you
gave Gwen.
