It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gwen Defede (nee Ralph) at the age of 92. After a brief stay in hospital, she passed suddenly but peacefully on Friday April 10, 2026.

A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. A loving and devoted wife to the late Nick, cherished mother to Chuck (Beverley), Andrew and John. Proud Grandma to Holly (Mitchell) and Mitchell (Kristine) and dear Great Grandmother to Addison.

Born and raised in Toronto, Gwen worked at Weston Bakery before meeting Nick and built a happy, loving life and home together. After raising the boys, she returned to work at Tilley Endurables managing the mail order and catalog departments. She lived for her family and was a very giving person, including being the keeper of the magic bag of gifts for the grandkids. Whether at home or in Windsor, she never turned down a good crown and ginger ale. She also enjoyed reading, going to live theatre, the symphony and spending time at exercise classes at the local community center with the girls.

Many thanks to the staff at Scarborough General Hospital for taking excellent care of Gwen.

Please join us as we celebrate Gwen’s life on Saturday, May 23 from 1-3 p.m. at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre.
