Godofredo Murao Balcita, age 85, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, in Toronto, Canada. Known affectionately by his family and friends as Goding, Freddie, Fred, or Syaho, he leaves behind a legacy of hard work, music, and an unwavering devotion to his family.
Born on November 5, 1940, in Palacpalac, Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, Philippines, to Dalmancio Balcita and Gerrada Murao, Godofredo began his life with a drive to provide and succeed. In June 1974, he made the courageous move to Toronto, where he built a life rooted in dedication. While he was a professional driver in the Philippines, he spent his years in Toronto as a skilled butcher. He took immense pride in his craft, approaching his work with a seriousness and work ethic that earned the respect of all who knew him.
But while Fred was serious about his work, he was the soul of every celebration. He had a profound love for music and dancing. As a popular DJ for weddings and parties, he was always in high demand. He was a perfectionist in his hobby, constantly updating his equipment and rehearsing his playlists on weeknights to ensure every weekend event was perfect. His love for capturing memories extended to his camcorder; he was often seen recording family trips and special events, spending hours editing the footage to preserve the moments he held dear.
A true handyman, Godofredo was never happier than when he was working with his hands. Surrounded by his extensive collection of tools, he built the furniture that filled his family’s home. He also loved the open road, taking his family on countless road trips across North America, creating a lifetime of memories behind the wheel.
Above all, Godofredo was a family man. His wife, Natividad Pascual Balcita, was his world and always his top priority. As a father, he was a unique blend of jovial laughter and "tough love." He was a jokester who loved to see people smile, but he was equally committed to instilling strength and resilience in his three sons, ensuring they were equipped to handle whatever challenges life threw their way.
Godofredo is survived by his beloved wife, Natividad; his three sons, Joseph Pascual Balcita, Godofredo "Jun" Pascual Balcita Jr., and Godfrey Pascual Balcita; and a community of friends and extended family who will miss his jokes, his music, and his strength.
