George Warren Chisholm
September 25, 1923 - March 8, 2015
George Warren Chisholm
In his 92nd year, at home surrounded by three generations of his family, George died with dignity and in peace.
Son of Hector and Dorothy, Grandson, Lieutenant Colonel G.T. Chisholm of the 48th Highlanders Regiment.
Predeceased by his dear first wife Barbara Mary Buckland Chisholm after a happy 31 years of marriage. Father of the late Rebecca (Gerrard), father of George Jr. (Sonia), Jeffrey (Tamara), Ian (Jane) and Meg (Florencio). Grandfather to Mille, Barbara, Lauren, Sean, Elizabeth, Madeline, Alexandra and Mackenzie. Great grandfather to Henry.
Survived by his loving second wife of 34 years, Helen Labine Burns Chisholm. Stepfather of John (Sandra), Kelly (Ron) and Mark (Shannon), step grandfather to Allison, Meredith, Taylor, Matthew (Shinead), Jeremy, Carley, and Cameron. Great step grandfather to Zeke.
Will be missed by honourary daughter Elaine Stewart who has devoted her life to helping the Chisholm clan.
Brother of Margaret Ann Kennedy and the late Barbara Gwynne-Timothy.
Brother in law of Harry B. Kennedy Jr. and K.G.R. Gwynne-Timothy Q.C., O.N.
Past Warden and Elder of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
Ace RCAF pilot and instructor who loved to fly. Fourth generation stock broker and president of the family firm, Hector M. Chisholm & Co. George worked on the trading floor of the Toronto Stock Exchange for over 45 years, many years acting as Governor.
A weekend racer of sports cars across North America with Barbara and kids enthusiastically in tow until Barb understandably, put her foot down after their fourth child was born.
Proud past president of Cedarhurst Golf Club and 50 year member of Rosedale Golf Club, Toronto Hunt Club and Atlantis Golf Club in Florida.
George was a thoroughly charming gentleman of the old school who was loved by all.
Our families were the centre of his life and he was the rock in ours.
Always there to help us and remind us of the importance of kindness and generosity to those in need.
He loved their city home, the cottage on Lake Simcoe, the winter home in Atlantis, their many trips and of course his golf.
However, far, far above all else he loved the time when he was with family and friends, perhaps flipping hamburgers on the patio at the cottage.
We can’t forget that special smile when together, we all enjoyed a properly mixed Manhattan with Dad as toastmaster.
Although he will no longer be hosting our parties, dressed to his best in his Chisholm tartan kilt, he will always be with us, remembered with much love, warmth and affection.
There will be a 2pm service held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (corner of King St. & Simcoe St. Toronto) Friday March 13th.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be much appreciated.
