In memory of

Frances June Newman

April 19, 1926 - April 9, 2026

Frances June Newman (née Layton) April 19, 1926 - April 9, 2026

On Thursday, April 9 our amazing, resilient and so loved Mom, June Newman, left our world peacefully in her sleep, just 10 days before her 100th birthday.

Beloved wife of Bruce Derrick Newman (predeceased). Cherished mother of Brian (Cici), Christine, Kathryn, Diane (Bob) and Robert.
Mom’s legacy lives on as she is treasured and lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Karina, Michael, Leonardo, Jonathan, Samantha, Matthew, Tyler, Sean, Scott and Thomas. Great Nana to Kaleb, Blake, Griffin, Graydon, Gracelyn, Jasper, Chiedza, Runako, Hazel and Nash. Loved by many nieces and nephews, their families and other ‘family’ members in Australia. She was especially close to her nieces Carol and Leslie. She wove close bonds visiting and chatting with family and dear friends across the distances.

Born in Montreal, Quebec, she was the daughter of Frank and Gertrude Layton and predeceased by her adored sisters Pat (Patricia) and Shirley.

In 1949 Bruce and June were married and started their lives together. After raising their 5 children and supporting Dad in his busy professional life, Mom courageously went to Humber College where she received a degree in Travel and Tourism. This led to an 11 year career with Wardair from 1978 until her retirement in 1989 which provided them amazing travel benefits.

Mom’s wanderlust took them across the globe - from the snowy streets of Russia to an African safari in Kenya, from the floating restaurants in Hong Kong to river cruises along the Seine and the Nile. She particularly loved their annual winters in Florida and numerous cruises with beloved family and friends.

Mom was the Heart of our family and the best, most gentle, kind, considerate and caring mom in the world. She cherished our family and we cherished her. We were all so lucky to have her to guide us with her calm and nurturing presence, her grace, quiet wisdom, encouragement, warmth and lovely sense of humour over a long and wonderful life. While she will be missed dearly, our hearts are full of gratitude and love for the incredible lady that she was.

Love you to the stars and beyond, Mom. 🌟

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to two causes that were always close to Mom’s heart,
Camphill Foundation Canada

or the Salvation Army.

The family will gather for a private celebration at a later date.
