It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Fiona Sun on August 11, 2026, in Toronto, at the age of 60, following a brave and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Fiona walked an uncharted path. As the first in her family to attend Peking University and later to move abroad, she always met life’s challenges head-on, but never lost her sense of humour. Despite her disdain for math, she dedicated her career to becoming an exceptional accountant.
Sassy, independent, and unwaveringly loyal, Fiona was what people would call selfless to a fault. She was always the first to roll up her sleeves to help or to shoulder someone else’s troubles. For her, nothing was done in half measures, and everything had its place. Still, she remained humble, with a quiet knack for making the simple feel extraordinary.
She had a discerning eye for fashion, interior design, and a person's character. Though she often kept her cards close to her chest, she held firm opinions on everything, and enjoyed a healthy appreciation for good gossip. When she offered advice, it was usually because she knew she was right. At her core, she was fiercely protective, and she always had your back, even if you didn't quite deserve it.
In her later years, Fiona found joy in yoga, Zumba, painting, and taking long walks. She also poured her love into one particularly spoiled little corgi.
She is survived and deeply missed by her loving daughter, Sheena (Martin); her devoted partner, Kevin; her beloved younger brother, Sun Hong; her cherished fur-grandbaby, Bailey; and many extended family members. She is now safely reunited and at peace with her late father, Yong Fu Sun; her mother, Gui Ying Zhang; and her younger sister, Sun Li. Fiona also leaves behind an extended community of dear friends who became her chosen family across both China and Canada.
The family extends their profound gratitude to the compassionate staff at North York General Hospital for their exceptional care of Fiona.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 22, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre. To honour Fiona's vibrant spirit, the family invites all attendees to wear bright colours, especially her favourite, purple, and to come with stories and memories.
