Fernando Mineiro passed peacefully in his 74th year after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucinda, his son Paul (Valeriya) and his granddaughter Nicole. Born in Lisbon Portugal on December 20, 1938, Fernando graduated from the city’s polytechnic college with a specialization in electrical and mechanical engineering. He chose mechanical engineering design and went on to a career where his engineering design skills allowed him to play the part of an inventor in designing new processing systems which allowed for improvements in manufacturing efficiency. His expertise allowed him to travel to various manufacturing plants of the multinational company that he worked for in North America and Europe where he gladly shared his knowledge with his colleagues. His expertise was also sought after in his retirement where the “inventor” continued to “exercise his brain” as a consultant not only with his former employer but with other manufacturing interests as well.

His family however was paramount and for him the most important part of his life. He immigrated to Canada with his wife and son in 1967 and settled in the Toronto area where he stayed for the next 45 years. He was married to the love of his life for 52 years. He enjoyed spending time at his cottage in the Kawathra Lakes region and using his skillful hands in building the cottage along with upgrading various homes where he lived. His strength, honesty, self-will, and determination to “getting things done” shall serve as an example of a life well lived for us. He was looking forward to seeing his granddaughter grow up. He will be deeply missed.
