Evangelos Manousos passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 11, 2023 at the age of 87.
Beloved husband of Demetra for over 65 years. Cherished father of Paul (wife Tina) and daughter Athina (Nick). Adored grandfather of Eleni, Evan, George, and John. Great grandfather to Mary, Nicholas, and Daphne. He will be greatly missed by his three sisters in Greece Thomai, Irini and Anna. He was pre-deceased by his siblings Maria, George, Ari, and Alexandra. He also left behind many nieces and nephews in Greece and Canada who loved him dearly.
Affectionately known as Angelo in business and Papou Angelo to his grandchildren, he was an astute businessman, but he will be mostly remembered by his friends and family for his sense of humour and generosity. Evangelos mentored many during his career in Greece and later in his business ventures in Canada.
Evangelos married his childhood sweetheart Demetra in Athens, Greece in 1958 and worked as a ship draftsman in Piraeus. After a few years he began to search for better opportunities and moved to Canada in the late 60's with his wife and children in tow. He learned English in night school while he worked at various jobs to support his young family, but his dream was to become an independent businessman. Within a few years he became a top producing manager of a convenience store chain and this experience prepared him to start his own successful business a few years later with his wife Demetra.
When he retired in 2004 he and Demetra enjoyed going back to Greece for four months each year to reconnect with their old friends and relatives there. They also traveled to the USA at Christmas to visit his daughter’s family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He led a full and happy life helping many newcomers begin their life in Toronto. He hosted families in his home and helped them find jobs and places to live. He continued helping others after his retirement by driving elderly friends and relatives to help them with errands and groceries.
Evangelos loved reading history and biography books and he enjoyed watching the Maple Leafs with Demetra or the grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him.
