It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved
Mother and Baba Evana Sutaroski, on February 21, 2026 at the age of 94. In her final moments, Evana was comforted and surrounded by the loving presence of her family.
Evana was born on July 19, 1931, in Lavci, Bitola, Macedonia. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 50 years, Risto; her parents, Sotir and Nevena Talevski; her brother Peco (Lena); her sisters Rita (John) and Vera (Gorgi); her brother-in-law Tome (Cena); and her niece Paula.
She will be deeply missed by her son John (Sandra), daughter Susan (John), and her treasured grandchildren Michael, Mary, and Kalina (fiancé Evan). She also leaves behind her nieces Ginette (Mike), Laurie, Sandy (Adam), Melissa (Alex), and Jacquie (Ryan), as well as many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews.
Evana and Risto came to Canada in January 1958 and never looked back, embracing wholeheartedly the opportunities their new home offered. Through hard work, determination, and remarkable discipline, they built a life and legacy of which they were immensely proud. Together, they could have taught master classes in saving, perseverance, and getting ahead.
Evana loved travelling with her family and delighted in trips to Europe, Hawaii, and throughout North America. She also enjoyed concerts and lively visits to the casino, always bringing her quiet enthusiasm and warm spirit wherever she went.
Family was the center of Evana’s world. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren & gathering loved ones around her table for the abundant, lovingly prepared meals she was famous for. Her zelnik and homemade “manja” were legendary and eagerly anticipated at every family gathering.
Evana truly had “magic hands.” She could sew elegant gowns and outfits without a pattern, upholster for some of Toronto’s top interior decorators, transform her own home with impeccable style, tend a flourishing garden, and prepare the most delicious traditional foods and baked goods. Whatever she touched reflected her care, skill, and pride. Above all, those hands expressed her deepest purpose in life — to nurture, provide for, and care for her family.
Her enduring legacy is the deep love she gave so freely, the traditions she preserved through her cooking, and the beautiful home and garden she created with such pride.
Though her passing leaves a profound emptiness in our hearts, the memories she gifted us will be cherished forever.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in memory of Evana Sutaroski.
