Eustathios Protoulis (or "Stathis"/"Steve" as he was known by his friends and family) passed away on June 23 with his devoted son by his side from complications of pancreatic cancer. Born in Mytilene, Greece, Eustathios proudly served in the Hellenic Armed Forces both domestically and later internationally as part of Greece's contributions to NATO operations as a member state. Following his honourable discharge, he immigrated to Canada in 1969 and subsequently began his 25 year employment as a computer systems engineer for Memorex (and later Memorex Telex). Following the company's dissolution in 1996, Eustathios diligently studied and furthered his education by obtaining his credentials as a Certified Novell Engineer (CNE); he spent the remainder of his career in the field of computer networking with Infostream Technologies and ATR LAN Solutions.

Eustathios endured many tragedies in his life, particularly the early and unexpected deaths of his loving wife Euterpi ("Effie") in 1987, his youngest brother Themistoklis ("Themis"/"Tom") in 2002 and his oldest son Dimitrios ("Jim") in 2023. Earlier this year, he also lost his remaining brother Nikolaos ("Nikos") to pancreatic cancer. In spite of this, he never lost his faith or selflessness, continuing to put his friends and loved ones first in everything he did throughout his life. He was best known for his wisdom, loyalty, strong work ethic and his mischievous sense of humour. His ability to fix close to anything (or perhaps his stubbornness in refusing to yield to a problem that seemed unsolvable to anyone else) was always a tremendous source of pride to his wife and both of their children. He will be greatly missed by everyone who was privileged to know him and mourned endlessly by his family who loved and adored him.

He is survived by his son Antonios ("Tony"), his daughters-in-law Cathy and Lisa, and his granddaughters Sofia, Gabriella, Adriana and Vivian. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
