Elsie Simpson, born on July 22, 1933 in Manuels, NL to George and Gertrude Smith (née Farthing) and raised in St. John’s, passed peacefully away following a lengthy illness in Richmond Hill, ON on December 5, 2025. Elsie was predeceased by her wonderful husband of 63 years, Ron, and by her parents and siblings Norman Smith and Rowena Marshall. She leaves to mourn her much-loved children, Lois Babcock (Glenn), Paul Simpson (Della), Jennifer Julien (Richard), Nancy Simpson, Donna Gelinas (Bill) and Carolyn Simpson, as well as her sister, Betty Burke. Eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren lovingly called her Nanny. Elsie also leaves to mourn a large circle of nieces and nephews. She graduated as an RN from the SA Grace General Hospital in 1957 and was, by all accounts, an excellent nurse. Elsie and Ron were long-time members of Elim Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. John’s, where they had many close friends, but moved to Ontario in 2017 to be closer to family. Special thanks to Langstaff Square Care Community for their excellent care during Elsie's illness. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Elgin Mills Cemetery and Funeral Centre, in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Visitation will be on December 8 from 4 to 8 pm at Elgin Mills Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Centres at 1591 Elgin Mills Road East in Richmond Hill, ON. Her service, which will be live streamed for those unable to attend in person, will take place at the same location on December 29 at 6 pm.
