In memory of

Elizabeth Joyce Charles

April 13, 1925 - November 26, 2025

Elizabeth Joyce Charles, formerly Allen, née Cooke.

Elizabeth died peacefully on November 26, 2025, at the age of 100, the beloved mother of Valerie (Derrick) and grandmother of Evan, Isobel (Filip), Alison, and Muireann.
Elizabeth grew up in Toronto, and served Canada in WWII, enlisting as soon as she turned 18. When the war ended, she worked at “The Bell Telephone” and then at Richview Collegiate. After retirement, she was a hospital volunteer and was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren, who have countless fond memories of spending time with Grandma, including swimming, going to movies, going out for lunch, sleeping over, visiting the playground, walking the family dog, and even receiving matching pyjamas she sewed for them for Christmas.

Elizabeth was always active and loved exercise of many sorts, especially cycling, golfing, swimming, dancing, and walking. Even after turning 100, she exercised from her wheelchair every day and, whatever the temperature, loved spending time outside in the sun with her family and their dog Holly. If asked the secret to achieving centenarian status, she would without hesitation answer, “exercise and a healthy diet.”
Her cheerful smile, playful wink, and warm touch spread happiness to all around her and she easily won friends and admirers wherever she went. She retained her optimistic and sweet demeanour throughout her life. Even in her final years she maintained her love of wearing bright colours (especially pink), and was meticulous about carefully brushing her “locks”, applying lipstick, and wearing earrings to match her outfit.
Many thanks to all the kind and caring staff and volunteers at Kipling Acres Long-Term Care Home, where she happily spent her final two years and made many friends.

At her request there will be no funeral or memorial service. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Kipling Acres Long-Term Care Home or to The Scott Mission.
