Mary "Eleanor" Carson of Queensville, Ontario, formerly of Etobicoke, departed this life on February 21, 2014 at the age of 87. Following a long struggle with dementia, Eleanor passed away at Kensington Gardens Care Facility after a short illness, surrounded by those who cared for her.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Carson in 2006. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth (Mark Ovens) Carson and Gillian (Ross Hamilton) Carson, as well as her dear sister Betty Cunningham, her loving sister-in-law Heather (Billy) McCaw, and many caring nieces, nephews and extended family.

A public celebration of her life will be held at a reception at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Visitation Centre on Sunday March 2, 2014 EST from 2 to 5pm. (Please take the east entrance off Mt. Pleasant). In accordance with Eleanor's wishes, a private internment ceremony will take place at a later date.

Eleanor was a devoted nurse for many years in Ireland and Canada. One of her greatest joys was her career as a midwife in Ireland and the nearly 100 babies she delivered. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Stephen Lewis Grandmother Charity. African grandmothers are central to the life of their communities. They have stepped forward to care for millions of children orphaned by AIDS, displaying astonishing reserves of love, courage and emotional resilience, even while grieving the loss of their own adult children.
