"To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace."

Passed away on Sept. 21, 2013, in Toronto, after a long illness.

Predeceased by her parents, Josef and Marie Morel. Survived by her brother Thomas Morel and family in Hinsdale, IL; also survived by good friends Eva Holzer, Audrey and Jane Volesky, Leigh Davidson, and Pat Irwin.

“Nellie” was born in New York City during WWII then grew up in Prague, Czech Republic, where she learned to speak four languages, got her engineering degree, and started her career in Information Technology. Prague always held a very special place in her heart. In 1968, her family joined the wave of Czech emigrants to North America. Eleanor soon joined IBM, where she was the first female engineer ever hired by their Manufacturing division. Later she moved to the IBM Canada Software Lab. As part of her work, she visited many countries and made friends from around the world. She retired from IBM's National Language Technical Competency Center in 2002.

Eleanor was loved for her elegant style, her wit, her offbeat sense of humour. She was a great lover of theatre, ballet, opera (especially Wagner), and classical music, attending many dozens of live performances. She was an expert cook and craftsperson (knitting, lacemaking, woodcarving, calligraphy), and a connoisseur of fine food and beautiful things. She had the soul and aesthetic sense of an artist. Eleanor loved traveling the world for business and pleasure. In recent years she was missed on annual hiking trips with old friends in Europe.

Endless thanks to Betty Daignault, Fay Carter, Nenet Cabiguen, and every other member of Kari Tai’s staff at Four Teddington Park Avenue who showed such caring, respect, and friendship to Eleanor when she made her home there. You made her laugh and dance while she still could; you made her smile even in the hardest times. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Thanks also to the palliative team from the Temmy Latner Centre, the coordinators and music therapist from CCAC and the Philip Aziz Centre, and the lovely attendants from VHA Home Healthcare. You are all angels in unsung occupations.

Cremation has taken place. We will hold a gathering to celebrate Eleanor's life on November 23rd. Please RSVP to EleanorsMemory@gmail.com for details. Meanwhile, share your memories at this website, whether in English or in Czech.
