Eileen Anne Russell (née Christie), born December 29, 1941, in Keith, Scotland, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026.
Beloved wife of Jim since 1964, and devoted mother to Marnie (Rick) and Jon, Eileen built a life rooted in love, resilience, and quiet strength. She and Jim immigrated to Etobicoke, Ontario in 1967, and their home at 7 Thorpe became their haven, a cozy place of comfort and love.
Eileen’s early years growing up in the telephone exchange in Keith sparked a lifelong connection to communications. She began her career working switchboards in hotels and hospitals, eventually moving into leadership roles at Queensway General Hospital and later at Markham Stouffville Hospital. Affectionately known as the “phoney lady,” she guided staff through evolving technologies—from cord boards to modern voice systems—always with patience, humour, and expertise.
For 11 years, Eileen faced cancer with remarkable grace and a steady sense of humour, never losing her ability to put others at ease. Throughout the time of her treatments at Markham Stouffville Hospital, she was surrounded by the many friendships she had built over the years—a reflection of the kindness and warmth she extended so freely.
She will be remembered for her elegance, her quick wit, and her thoughtfulness. Eileen had a special gift for making others feel seen and cared for, whether through a perfectly chosen gift or a get together for afternoon tea. Her recipes—and the memories attached to them—will continue to be cherished.
Eileen was a proud and loving GG to her great-grandchildren, Regan, Suzy, and Ella, a role she embraced with joy and affection.
Eileen passed at Dorothy Ley Hospice, on the grounds of Queensway General Hospital, bringing her journey gently full circle.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the care and compassion shown to Eileen over the years. Although flowers are welcome, the family would also appreciate donations to Markham Stouffville Hospital or the Dorothy Ley Hospice in her memory.
Forever loved, always remembered.
