Edward Stuart Martin
March 10, 1930 - December 13, 2013
Edward Stuart “Ted” Martin passed away peacefully December 13, 2013, age 83, at Community Nursing Home, Pickering, Ontario. Ted was born on March 10, 1930 in Toronto. He is survived and remembered by his brother Bob, and his wife Myrna; also, his brother Don. He was beloved "Uncle Ted" to his nephew Bob (Kathryn) and niece Diane (Dave); great uncle to Ryan (Jennifer), Rachel (Andrew), Brad and Steve; great great uncle to Ben, Jillian and Payslie. The whole of Ted's working life was at The University of Toronto, Wallberg Memorial Building, where he retired after more than 40 years of service. He was a keen sports enthusiast closely following the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs; collecting their regalia, mementos and programs. He regularly attended their games and in later years avidly followed the play by play on radio, preferring this to TV coverage. His heroes were Foster Hewitt and Gerry Howarth. Ted was a dedicated equipment manager, for many years at Ted Reeve arena. Come the summer, Ted turned his energies to the Beaches Baseball League at Kew Gardens and worked for decades in its organization. On his retirement from baseball at Kew Gardens, the championship trophy was dedicated in his name. Always a kind and gentle person, Ted made friends, and they were legion, wherever he went. In his retirement he particularly enjoyed and looked forward to visits with his extended family. Special thanks to the caring staff at Community Nursing Home. Cremation has taken place. A service will be held for family and friends at a date to be announced. Donations in Ted’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army. Interment Pine Hills Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.etouch.ca.
