It is with great sadness that the family inform you of the death of their Aunt Edna (Eddie) MacCubbin on March 10, 2026, she was in her 81st year. Eddie passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and close friend.
Eddie was the youngest of five children. She was born May 30, 1945, in Pointe Claire, Quebec to (Lawrence) Stuart MacCubbin and Sarah (nee Fox) MacCubbin. Eddie is predeceased by her parents, her brother Norman, sisters, Hilda, Heather and Sheila, her nieces Brenda and Cathy and her nephew Brian. She will be sorrowfully missed by her niece Karen, nephews Steve (Susan), Dave (Kelly), Neil, Jeff, DJ, and her 5 great-nieces and 4 great-nephews along with her close friends.
Growing up in Montreal, Eddie and her sister Sheila became close friends with sisters Mary and Agnes FitzGerald. They did just about everything together; school, parties, boys, jobs, travel, and even moving away from Montreal. In the mid 1960s through to the 1980s, Eddie would frequently travel with the FitzGeralds to their mother’s family’s farm. Through time, Eddie became an adopted sister to the FitzGerald sisters’ younger cousin Marion (nee Carroll) Dombroski. Through the FitzGeralds and while still in Montreal, Eddie also met Len Morley, however it was not until many years later that they became a couple.
Eddie worked for 8 years as a Supervisor in the Administrative Services Department for Bell Canada in Montreal. She moved to Toronto in 1976 (Interestingly the FitzGerald sisters had also eventually settled in Toronto) and started working as the Telecommunications Manager for what is now known as Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Eddie was responsible for all phone systems, intercoms in operating rooms and overhead, doctors’ pagers and for overseeing the receptionists and telephone operators throughout the hospital. She retired from that position in 2005.
Eddie loved traveling with her sister Sheila, Mary, Agnes and friends. She went on many camping trips across Canada, in the Rockies and throughout Ontario and Quebec. Eddie enjoyed many trips to sunny spots such as Barbados, St. Martin, Jamaica, Saint Kitts, Nevis, and a European tour of France, Italy, Ireland, Scotland, and England. In winter, although she did not ski, she would tag along on ski trips to Mt. St. Louie / Moonstone, Mt. Tremblant and Mt. Ste. Anne. Eddie always said, the apres-ski was the most fun. Rawdon and Gratton Lake were also destinations the group would go to in both summers and winters.
Len eventually moved to Toronto in the early 1980s and reconnected with everyone. Eddie and Len eventually started spending more and more time together and in the late 1980s, announced they were a couple. They got a dog Buster who went everywhere with them. He followed Eddie wherever she went. Len and Eddie both enjoyed car racing, music, watching golf, tennis, baseball and hockey and of course dogs. They enjoyed road trips in their sports car. They remained together until Len’s death in 2020.
We loved that Eddie took part in the annual McCallum tradition by attending the family Christmas get together on December 27th! This was an opportunity for Eddie to visit with all her nieces and nephews and their families. She enjoyed this tradition immensely and looked forward to each year. She said it was the best way to catch up on the comings and goings of each relative and was always proud to hear of their accomplishments. Plus, she didn’t have to travel all over to see them, she could sit in one spot, and they would come to her. Eddie always said that it was nice to visit and that it was nice to go home afterwards. There is only so much one can endure of family before one gets exhausted!
Eddie was quiet, soft spoken and one of the most generous and thoughtful people in this world. She had one-liners that would make you drop to the floor. She loved to laugh and be around those who enjoyed life to the fullest. She never complained and never wanted to be a burden on anyone. She was a whiz at scrabble, backgammon, and maybe not so much at cribbage, but sure did love to play. She was a luddite but tried her best. Later in years, she enjoyed driving through the ravine on her scooter with Agnes. Her favourite meal was BBQ ribs.
