We are deeply saddened to share the peaceful passing of Wil on December 25, 2025, at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, at the age of 88.
Born in Peterborough, Ontario, to Herb and Mae Tranter; where he spent his early years before setting out on a life defined by curiosity, connection, and adventure. He eventually settled in Toronto, making his home in North York with his beloved wife Judy, where together they built a life full of faith, family, and friendship over 52 years of marriage.
Wil’s life unfolded in many chapters, each shaped by his love of learning and entrepreneurial spirit. Over the years he wore many hats, serving as a swim instructor and coach, a high school guidance counsellor and mentor, a triathlon race director, an international tour leader, and the owner and operator of Kawartha Kayaking Tours. Wil had a rare ability to connect on a deeper level with people, cherishing one-on-one conversations, where he could ask meaningful questions and offer his undivided attention. He was never happier than when he was outdoors or on the move. He found deep joy kayaking the waters of Stony Lake, travelling internationally in search of new experiences, and skiing well into his 85th year. A devoted Christian and man of deep faith, Wil lived his beliefs through service, generosity, and a lifelong commitment to volunteering in his community.
He is survived by his loving wife Judy; his son Chad and daughter-in-law Maria; his cherished grandchildren, Jacobie and Boden; and his brother Glenn Tranter and sister-in-law Connie, and many nieces and nephews.
Wil will be remembered for his larger-than-life stories, his unmistakable whistle, and his gift for conversation. He was a loyal friend, a committed volunteer, an adventurer at heart, and above all, a devoted family man who took great pride in those he loved. Wil’s legacy will live on in the stories shared, the waters paddled, the slopes skied, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
