Douglas Warnock McDowell
December 11, 1927 - June 16, 2012
The world lost one of its last genuine "good guys" with Doug's passing on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at age 84. Loving husband of June McDowell, with whom he celebrated their 64th anniversary just one week ago. Proud father of devoted daughter Patti and son-in-law Pat, Papa to their children TJ and Samii and grand-dog Phoebe. Also son David, his wife Sheena and their children Heather, Craig and Kirstie. A former Toronto policeman, Doug most loved his 30-plus years as a self-employed automotive tool specialist. He was respected by body shops and car dealerships across the GTA for both his technical knowledge and sharp wit. Always quick to strike up a conversation or share a joke, Doug was also a loyal fan of Knights hockey, Aces volleyball and North Toronto baseball. Of all things in life Doug most enjoyed the company of his family, a plate of shrimp and the occasional cold beer (aka a 'zinger'). Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at York Central Hospital, especially the incredible staff in dialysis, who helped Doug through 18 months of treatments and who made his final journey dignified and peaceful. Gratitude as well to Luz for her special care. Per his wishes, cremation has occurred. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the York Central Hospital Dialysis Unit or charity of your choice. Doug enters eternity with the comfort of knowing his wife June remains at his side, until they meet again.
