Douglas Reid Munro—a mentor, friend, uncle, brother, husband, father, and proud poppa—was born on June 1, 1943, in Toronto, Ontario, and spent his entire life in the city he loved. He passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, at Humber River Hospital. Douglas was a graduate of the University of Toronto and OSIE, dedicating much of his life to education through a distinguished career teaching Math and Physics. After retiring as Vice Principal from Western Technical School in 1999, he continued contributing to the TDSB as a consultant and later lent his organizational skills and leadership to several charitable organizations.
An avid curler, golfer, and skier, Douglas also played baseball in his younger years. He had a lifelong passion for automobiles and delighted in keeping up with the newest car models. In his later years, Doug became a skilled gardener with a particular passion for orchids. He loved dogs and was a devoted owner to Ursus, Merlin, and Mishko, always eager to give treats to Brody and Bear whenever he could. In the evenings, he found joy in watching classic sitcoms like MASH, Cheers, and more recently, The Big Bang Theory. Most of all, he cherished spending time with family and friends.
Douglas was predeceased by his loving parents, Doug and Urla, and his wife Vera, who passed earlier in 2025. He is survived by his two sons, James and Robert; his daughters-in-law, Solange and Ciara; his three granddaughters, Isabelle, Evelyn, and Sybil, who brought him endless pride; his three sisters, Carol, Diane, and Denise; and his cherished friend Mary.
All who knew him will remember a logical and intelligent man who never stopped teaching, and who was also incredibly funny, caring, and compassionate. Always willing to quietly help anyone in need, he never sought recognition for his generosity.
May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved wife Vera and all his loved ones, watching over us always.
