On Oct 1, 2025, our mom Dorothy Georgenia (George) Williams passed peacefully at North York General Hospital. Mom was born on December 27, 1934 to George and Mable Whitney in the small Ontario town Markdale. Growing up she chose to spend most of her free time swimming in the river pool, or skating at the rink. In her late teens she left for the big city and studied to be a hairdresser. She met her life partner, Eric, at the Riverdale skating rink. They were married on September 18, 1954. On Dec. 27, 1961 they welcomed their first child, Jennifer, followed by Christopher in early ‘64, and Nancy in March ’65. Georgenia was a special big sister to her brother Don Whitney (Joyce) and looked up to her older siblings, Kaye Macdonald (John) and Harold Whitney (Winnie). She was a patient and caring mother, a devoted wife, an incredible grandmother to Wesley and Melissa, and a cherished friend to many. She enjoyed many sports, curling, skating and cross-country skiing, and badminton. In summers she loved swimming and kayaking and sharing family times at her cottage in Haliburton. She was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed painting and loved her garden. She was an active member of her community, a regular volunteer for charities including the Canadian Cancer Society, The Institute for Advancements in Mental Health (previously the Friends of Schizophrenia), and was active in her church. She was a loving caregiver for her husband in his later years, and accepted her challenges in aging with stubbornness and determination to continue living her best life. She will be missed by many; may she rest in peace. The family would like to sincerely thank the team at the Supportive Care Clinic and all the nurses, doctors and support staff at NYGH who helped her navigate her final years. A service of celebration will be held on Thursday October 16, 2025 at 11am at the Donway Covenant United Church, 230 The Donway West in Don Mills, followed by a reception in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Institute for Advancements in Mental Health or a charity of your choice.
