Dong Hung La passed away peacefully at his home in Toronto, Ontario.
Born in Saigon, Vietnam, Dong grew up in the city before eventually building his life in Toronto. He earned his B.Sc. from the University of Manitoba and became a dedicated accountant — many of his clients stayed with him for decades, a testament to his skill and integrity. He was also proud of the store he ran in Chinatown, a reflection of his hard work and independent spirit.
Those who knew Dong best knew that family came first, always. He was a loving and devoted father to his daughter, Chanel, and cherished every moment they shared. He also shared an especially close bond with his siblings, nieces, and nephews — connections strong enough that they are gathering from near and far to say goodbye. He was a wonderful conversationalist with a great sense of humor, someone who listened intently and connected easily with everyone he met.
Dong loved to travel and to eat — he never met a cuisine he didn't enjoy. In recent years, he especially treasured visiting his daughter in Chicago, a cruises and visits with his siblings, and trips back to Vietnam and to Malaysia. Generous to the end, he supported more than a dozen charities every year, from cancer research to wildlife conservation.
Dong is survived by his daughter, Chanel Carmen La, and the many siblings, nieces, and nephews who loved him dearly.
