Our Dad left his well-worn life on March 14, 2026. He had just celebrated his 96th birthday on February 22. Each of us in the clan remaining will deeply miss him and are proud of the parts of him that we recognize in our own selves. Every one of us has his sense of humour which we freely share.

Dad was the kindest and most hard-working man you could ever meet. He lived a life guided by his strong beliefs and a clear moral compass. He held himself to the same high standards he expected of everyone else.

The care he received at Grove Park Home exceeded those high standards. Dad’s independent spirit made him unwilling to complain or put anyone out. The people who cared for him knew what he needed, respected his dignity and provided a loving home for him in the last part of his life.

Ken leaves behind his children, Judy Cox and her partner Stephen King, Lois Dobbin and her husband Jamie and Hugh McAlpine and his wife Sandra De Souza. Third generation clan members are Denis, Janie, Erin, Mary and Markie, followed by the fourth: Grace, Franny, Robbie, Zachary, Brooke and Freddie on Judy’s side, and Layla and Ryan on Lois’s. Many, many others stand with us in the sorrow of our loss; extended family, Dad’s adopted family, granddaughter and grandsons-in-law, dear friends and our beloved Anne from Alvinston. Daisy and Carl deserve special mention for the light they brought to Dad’s life at Grove Park Home. He was proud to say that their friendship was not conditional on getting dog treats.

Dad’s favourite charity is the Salvation Army. He believed in helping those who are trying to help themselves. His advice to everyone was to try always to live by the words of The Optimist Creed: “Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind…”
