<div itemprop="description">Bazos, Demetri (Jim) <br /> <br />Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on March 28, 2016. Demetri was born on September 17, 1931 in Toronto, the son of Athanate and Chris Bazos (predeceased), brother to Harriet Speropoulos (Nick deceased) and Anthony (deceased). He is survived and will be greatly missed by Gloria (nee Christakos) his wife of 52 years, his children Dianne, Angela, Chris and granddaughter Chanel. <br />In his youth, he was known as Mimi to all his friends and family. As a faithful Alter boy at the St. George&rsquo;s Greek Orthodox Church on Bond Street, it was thought that he may be destined for the Preisthood! He continued to be active in the church as a member of the Choir and GOYA where he met his wife, Gloria. He was a founding member of St. Nicholas Church where he held the position of Board Secretary for some years. <br /> <br />Most recently, he was interviewed for the Award-winning documentary &ldquo;Violent August &ndash; the Anti-Greek Riots of 1918&rdquo; where his father&rsquo;s restaurant the Colonial on Yonge Street was destroyed by rioters along with many other Greek Restaurants. <br />An avid sports enthusiast, Jim was on the East York High School Basketball, Football and Hockey teams. In the summer he was a Lifeguard at the Sunnyside Pool and a member of the Ski Patrol in the winter. After challenging Jim to a game of tennis, Gloria found out she was dealing with the one-time East York Doubles Champion. <br /> <br />Always there to cheer for the home team, Jim was a season ticket holder with the Toronto Argonauts for over 50 years. He began attending games with his mother (also an enthusiast) at Varsity Stadium. In later years he carried on this tradition with his wife and children. <br />Jim began his studies at the University of Toronto however was needed to run his family&rsquo;s Restaurant Supply business due to the illness of his father. In 1972 he began his career position as the Canadian Sales Manager for the US based Rubatex Corporation and Groendyke Manufacturing. He was with the company for 30 years and travelled across Canada meeting many individuals who became lifelong friends even after his retirement. <br /> <br />Jimmy will be remembered as a faithful, loving husband and father. To all those who knew him he was admired for his wit and humour yet always seen as a straightforward, sincere and completely honest individual. <br />May his Memory be Eternal. <br /> <br />Visitation at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre- 375 Mount Pleasant Road (East Gate Entrance) on Thursday, March 31 from 2-4pm and 6-9 pm and Friday, April 1 from 10 am until the time of Service in our Chapel at 11am. Burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice. <br /> <br /></div>
