In memory of

David William Smith

October 1, 1941 -  February 3, 2025

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of David William Smith (b. October 1, 1941) of Toronto, Ontario, surrounded by family, on February 3, 2025 at Toronto General Hospital.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Jacquelyn Altman; his son, Colin, and daughter-in-law Daniela and two grandchildren Tabitha and Cordelia; his sister, Mary Ann Smith; and his four-footed family Zigi. He is predeceased by his wife Cheryl Essai.

David was a devoted husband and father as well as a loyal friend. He was also a prominent and well-respected businessman who served as the Chair and Senior Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers, the President & CEO of Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and Chair of the Government of Canada's Audit Committee, among other appointments. Outside of work, David was always active and driven – he was an avid skier, golfer and captain of his cherished boat, Outport. His wit and humour will be missed by all but he will live on through our cherished memories and his many contributions to others.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 2pm at Congregation Habonim with religious leader Eli Rubenstein and Rabbi Cantor Aviva Rajsky officiating.
