<div itemprop="description">David was born in Bismarck, North Dakota to Christina Scott Haibeck and Andrew J. Haibeck. Both were early settlers of Kidder County N.D. Christina Scott Haibeck was a native of Maine and Andrew J. Haibeck was from Kleppe, Norway. David's mother was County Superintendent of Schools and his father worked as a carpenter. David is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Lillian; son, Andrew Scott Haibeck (Josephina) of Toronto; daughter, Laura Haibeck (Edwin Levitan); granddaughter, Rebecca Haibeck Levitan; and grandson, David Scott Haibeck, of Pittsburgh, PA; brother, Ted Haibeck, a rancher from Tuttle, N.D.; cousin, Lester Alhs of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son, Robert; brother, Jeryl of Seattle and sister, Rachel Benson of Fargo, N.D. David served as an officer in the US Navy in World War II and participated in the landing at Iwo Jima and the surrender in the Tokyo Harbor Peace Treaty. He then skippered his damaged ship across the Pacific at 4 knots per hour to San Francisco. David graduated from N.D State University at Fargo and soon entered the Automobile Finance business. He worked with CIT and helped found Ford Motor Credit Co., in Dearborn, Mich. He was named the first VP of Ford Motor Credit Co. of Canada. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to The Nature Conservancy whose work David supported and believed in so strongly. A memorial to celebrate this gentle man's life will be held October 31st at The Harbour Room in the Residences of The World Trade Centre (10 Yonge Street/10 Queen's Quay) from 4:30 p.m. until the room is closed at 8:00 p.m. <br />(room with a grand piano just south of the elevators for 10 Queen's Quay - 2nd floor). <br /> <br /></div>
