Darleen Shea-Barratt.

Peacefully at Markham Stouffville Hospital on February 16th in her 67th year. Survived by her loving husband Ken Barratt and his children Terry (Kelly) Barratt, Geoff (Susan) Barratt and Dawn Barratt.

Darleen will also be deeply missed by her father George Shea, sisters Colleen (Jon) Cheevers, Cathy (Murray) Whittaker, Maureen Caruk (Wayne Parrish) and her brother Kevin Shea (Christine Sharp). Darleen was very close and fond of her numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews and particularly enjoyed the large Christmas gatherings where often she and Ken played Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Darleen was well known and respected in the Uxbridge community witnessed by the numerous friends she made while participating in line dancing and drumming groups, which complemented her love for and true talent in music. It was also well known that Ken and Darleen enjoyed their Yorkies and were often seen in town with their kids, as they called them, dressed in various holiday outfits.

Darleen was admired and loved by everyone who came in contact with her and was known for her generosity of spirit, celebration of others and the giving of time. Her family was a great joy to her, and the wellspring of her wonderfully positive outlook on life. She always had a poem or a verse or a song to herald a birthday, anniversary, graduation, wedding or other rite of a loved one’s passage, and her sharp, wry wit was a revelation to anyone who got to know her even a bit.

We would like to acknowledge the efforts of all the caregivers at Markham Stouffville Hospital, Dr. Mateya Trinkaus and a special thank you to her life long friend Jackie Ricketts for her caring nature with Darleen.

A memorial celebration will be announced in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Markham Stouffville Hospital. MSHF.on.ca
