Danny Tse (謝燦榮) was born on January 27, 1950, in Hong Kong. He passed away on June 23, 2026, in Toronto, Canada.
He grew up in the Shau Kei Wan district (筲箕灣), in the Shallow Water Pier Village (淺水碼頭村). His father was Tse Cheuk (謝卓), and his mother was Ng Tai (吳弟). The family’s ancestral home was in Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province, China (籍貫:中國廣東省肇慶市).
From a young age, Danny was energetic and full of life. He loved music, soccer, and swimming. Growing up by the waterfront, he often swam in Aldrich Bay (愛秩序灣) and played soccer with friends. His active childhood earned him the nickname “Monkey.”
As a teenager, Danny discovered music and taught himself to play the guitar. By the age of 16, he had formed a band where he served as guitarist and lead singer. His band went on to win a music competition organized by *Tsing Tao* newspaper in Hong Kong, marking an early achievement in his musical journey.
Danny built a long and successful career in the aviation industry spanning over 40 years. He began working with Air India, then Cathay Pacific, before joining Korean Air in 1977 in Hong Kong at Kai Tak Airport, working in operations.
In the late 1980s, Danny and his family immigrated to Canada. He first arrived in Vancouver on November 5, 1987, before moving to Toronto. In 1988, he rejoined Korean Air and played a key role in launching the airline’s passenger service to Canada on November 2, 1988. The inaugural route operated twice weekly between Seoul, Vancouver, and Toronto.
Danny continued with Korean Air for another 27 years as Sales and Marketing Manager for Canada. He became an important figure in the Canadian travel industry, helping develop travel between Canada and Asia, including Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Korea. He retired in 2015 after a distinguished career. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the aviation and travel industry, he was formally honoured upon his retirement by a City Councillor of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada.
Beyond aviation, Danny was also known in the Chinese-Canadian community as a television host. During the 1990s and 2000s, he hosted lifestyle and entertainment programs on Fairchild Television, bringing news, culture, and entertainment to Chinese audiences in Canada. He also hosted live events and served as MC for community and corporate functions. He frequently volunteered his time to support charitable organizations, including the Heart & Stroke Foundation and Yee Hong Foundation telethons.
Danny was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was married to Delia Tse (謝童黛莉) for 50 years, having known her since their teenage years. Together, they built a life across Hong Kong, Vancouver, and Toronto.
Danny and Delia raised two sons, Jessy Tse (謝尚智) and Derrick Joseph Tse (謝尚勇), both of whom graduated from the University of Toronto. He is survived by his sons and their spouses, Tamara Ho (何詩敏) and Ashley Adams. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Alexander Quinn Tse (謝嘉浩), Rhys Theodore Tse (謝嘉熙), Noramei Helena Tse (謝紫慧), and Avonlea Jane Tse (謝紫穎).
Danny is also loved by his three brothers: Thomas Tse (謝燦輝, deceased 1943–2012), Tse Chan Kwong (謝燦光), and Paul Tse (謝燦華), as well as their extended families in Hong Kong and Canada, his nephews and nieces, and his wider in-law family.
Danny’s life reflected the journey of many immigrant families. Through hard work and determination, he built a successful career, raised a family whose children attained higher education, and contributed to both the aviation and media communities in Canada. He is remembered for his energy, warmth, generosity, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey.
Danny is laid to rest at York Cemetery in Toronto, Section 33, where family and friends may continue to remember and honour his life.
