Danielle Marie Young (née Desjardins), after battling a long illness, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, in East York, at the age of 82.
Danielle was born and raised in Montreal, and although she left Quebec decades ago, she never lost her pride in her French heritage. As a young woman, she met and married Martin Young, a student attending Sir George Williams University (now Concordia University) in Montreal. Their marriage lasted 61 years, until Martin sadly passed away in 2023. It was a life filled with adventure, especially in the early years when Martin’s work took them to Algeria, and they spent their vacations travelling across Europe with their two young sons.
After leaving Algeria, Danielle and her family returned to her hometown of Montreal before relocating permanently to Ontario in the mid-1970s, living in London, Unionville, Keswick, and finally East York.
Danielle touched the lives of family and friends with her generosity and her great passion for life. She was a lifelong gourmet cook who hosted memorable feasts for special family occasions. Danielle passed on her love of cooking — along with treasured traditional recipes — to her beloved grandchildren, who were her greatest source of happiness.
Danielle is predeceased by her loving husband, Martin (2023), and is survived by her sons Martin (wife Cindy Hines) and Phillip (wife Miranda Wong), as well as her grandchildren, Emma and Ethan.
