Daniel Kevin McClean
July 21, 1944 - August 17, 2013
Daniel K. McClean passed away peacefully early in the morning of August 17, 2013 in Toronto. Born July 21, 1944 in Toronto, Ontario, Dan was predeceased by his parents Robert Boyd McClean and Florence Mary McClean, and is survived by his brother Robert Boyd McClean.
Dan was the loving husband of more than 43 years to Suzanne (nee Desilets). He will be deeply missed by his sons Marc (Adrienne Moore) and Daniel (Kathryn), and daughter Elisabeth, as well as his rambunctious and recently arrived grandsons Rory Boyd and Hunter Michael, to which he was a proud grandfather.
An academic at heart, Dan obtained his Master of Science from the University of Windsor, and Doctor of Philosophy and Bachelor of Laws, both from the University of Toronto. After practicing law in downtown Toronto for 10 years, Dan turned to teaching at Centennial College in the School of Engineering, Technology and Applied Science, where he was a professor, coordinator and chair. He enjoyed guiding his students and won the affection and loyalty of his colleagues. Upon his retirement he became manager in the Applied Research and Innovation Centre at Centennial, encouraging young entrepreneurs.
Nothing made Dan prouder than watching each of his own children graduate from McGill University in Montreal and pursue further degrees and their own successful careers.
Dan also loved to study and trade agricultural commodities and stock indexes futures. A trend-follower, he designed systems to align himself with the ‘path of least resistance’.
The family would like to thank Dr David Hedley, oncologist, Drs Subrata Banerjee and Julia Ridley and the Palliative Care Team. We are especially grateful to Bernadette Southwood Clinical Trials Nurse for her kind and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Pancreatic Cancer Canada (www.pancreaticcancercanada.ca), Princess Margaret Hospital (www.thepmcf.ca) or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
