In Loving Memory of Danica Roknic
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Danica Roknic announces her passing on December 21, 2025, at the age of 86, following a courageous battle with dementia.
Despite the cruelty of this disease, Danica never forgot her beloved daughters Mary (Bill Ward) and Gloria (Dan Giannobile) and her cherished granddaughters Ava and Chloe, who were the light of her life. She will be deeply missed by her brother Dragan (Mira). She is predeceased by her sisters Milka and Mira and brother Mile. She will also be fondly remembered by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, along with their families, some of whom have predeceased her.
Danica was born and raised in the small town of Pjescanica, a Croatian town in the historically Serbian-inhabited region of Kordun. In 1961, at the age of 22, she traveled across the ocean to Canada to meet the love of her life, George (Djuro), whom she married by proxy a year earlier. Over the next 50 years, they worked tirelessly to build a life together, creating a home filled with love. They remained devoted to one another until George’s passing in 2015.
It was the love of her family that gave her the strength to carry on. She took great pride in her home and garden, and her green thumb turned her yard into a beautiful oasis. Danica also had a deep love of food - the kitchen was her sacred place. She was happiest when surrounded by family at a table filled with her homemade dishes, laughter, and love.
Danica was deeply loved and her warmth, generosity, and spirit will be missed terribly by all who knew her.
