Dale Roberts, born September 26, 1948, was a gifted teacher who never failed to be extraordinarily patient and considerate to all whom she knew. Adored by her parents, Dave and Dorothy Roberts, she grew up to be a fun-loving, witty, hard-working, adventuresome woman who was dedicated to taking a stand for peace and justice within and beyond Canada. Dale (aka Dils and Mumpies) devoted her personal energy to raising her two children, Ivan and Tanya, and was close to her brother Wayne, his wife Lori Stahlbrand, and their daughters, Jaime and Anika. She loved teaching children, camping and hiking in northern Ontario, backpacking in Asia and Latin America, bicycling along the Toronto waterfront, and spending quality time over coffee and tea with family and friends. She was also active in advocacy to phase out nuclear and coal power, against tar sands extraction and other destructive large scale mining ventures, and as an ally in the struggles for justice by migrants, refugees and the Palestinian people. She faced pancreatic cancer bravely, gracefully and with gratitude to the dedicated team of nurses, doctors and support staff at Toronto East General Hospital. She died peacefully in the company of her family by her hospital bed on November 4th 2011. Donations can be made in her honour to the Turtle House Art/Play Centre for children and families from refugee backgrounds or to the Ontario Clean Air Alliance. A small private family gathering will be held in Dale's honour.
