It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Claus Habel. Claus died peacefully with his family by his side. He was the loving husband to Catherine and cherished father to Kerry and Rob (Tawnya) and stepdaughter Julie Ginter (Derrick). He was beloved Opa to his grandchildren Bradley, Kayla, Carleen, Sierra, Madison, Abby, Brianna, James and Adam, and Great Opa to Mason.

Claus was born in Breslau, Germany in 1932, His early years as a young boy had been strongly influenced by the events of WW2. Claus would often reflect upon this time and would share his experiences with his children and grandchildren. In 1954, at the age of 22, Claus immigrated to Canada. He was known for his love of travel, skiing, moose hunting, the outdoors and his constant positive attitude and quick sense of humor. He was still cracking jokes until the very end to make people smile.

Claus’s favourite spot was at the family cottage on Lake Muskoka. His pride and joy was his 1970 Muskoka Greavette boat which is still going strong even today.

We would like to thank the medical staff in the 2 North wing of the Ajax Hospital for the exceptional care, empathy and dignity they showed him in his final days.

A funeral for Claus will be held on Monday October 6th with visitation starting at 11 am and service at 12 pm at Simple Alternative Funeral Center located at 1057 Brock Rd, Pickering, Ontario (L1W 3T7). A reception will follow directly after the service (1 -3pm). Refreshments and sandwiches will be provided. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
