Chuan Peng was born in Vietnam on April 8th, 1945. As the second eldest of six children, he had to help with many family responsibilities early on in life – the most significant of which forced him to leave school at a young age to work. Wartime in Vietnam was difficult for Chuan and his family, but there were moments of joy during those trying years. Through friends he met his wife of forty years, Yaluan. They were married in 1974 and were soon blessed in 1976 with the birth of their daughter, Ying. Recognizing the challenges of raising a family during a volatile time, they left Vietnam, sought refuge in China and eventually emigrated to Canada in 1979.

Chuan worked hard from a young age, and this discipline continued as he committed to making a good life for his family in Canada. He held various jobs: a labourer, machine operator, kitchen assistant, shorthand cook – All the while maintaining his devotion and commitment to family. Their son Michael was born in 1989 and Chuan continued to immerse himself in fatherhood, now from a different vantage point. This dedication to family was further exemplified when he sponsored his parents to leave Vietnam and to come live with his family in Toronto.

Chuan loved travelling and introducing his children to its joys and benefits. He has travelled the world, from Europe, to Asia and to various parts of North America. Supportive and devoted husband, father, brother and son, Chuan relished a new role in recent years: loving grandfather to his adoring grandson, Kishan.

He will be dearly missed.
