It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Christos Somos, who departed this life peacefully on March 28, 2026. Christos was a very faithful man who was devoted to the Greek Orthodox Church. He showed unwavering courage, strength and grace, true to who he was, until the very end.
Christos was born on February 19, 1936, to the late Anastasia and Theodore Somos, in Athens, Greece. He met the love of his life, Joanna Somos when they were young and began courting her when they became teenagers. The couple married on September 8, 1956, and began a lifetime partnership that spanned seventy years, which was filled with love and devotion. Christos moved with his young wife, Joanna to Toronto, Canada in 1959, where he worked hard in the restaurant industry and started his family. Christos was a kind and devoted father to his two sons, Terry and Tom, to whom he taught the values of faith, respect, love and dedication to family.
Christos carried a lightness and love of life. He found joy in his artwork, especially his detailed drawings of the saints of the Greek Orthodox Church. He displayed a passion for poetry and loved being the master of ceremonies at family functions, where he shared many of his memorable speeches and numerous jokes that brought so much fun and laughter to his guests. Above all, Christos deeply treasured time spent with his family and friends; his presence brought comfort and joy to all.
Christos is survived by his wife Joanna, his two sons Terry and Tom, and his many grandchildren that he loved and cherished.
The family would like to warmly thank everyone at the Thompson House, who provided outstanding care to Christos during his stay there, having lived with dementia during the later chapter of his life. We encourage continued awareness and support for those affected by dementia, in his honor.
We appreciate your thoughts, prayers and love during this difficult time. We thank God that we were blessed to have so many wonderful memories with this beautiful man, our dearest and beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. Christos will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
