Carlyle "Carl" Gerald Williams, age 87, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, in Toronto, Ontario. Born in Grenada in 1938, he was the son of the late Mignon Williams and Estelle Williams (née Francois).

A Life Journey

A true global citizen, Carl’s life was defined by his adventurous spirit and his grand appetites—for food, for conversation, and for connection. From his early years in Grenada, he set out to see the world, moving to the United Kingdom as a teenager to train as a chef. He eventually made his home in Canada—working in Calgary, Toronto, and Niagara-on-the-Lake, Montreal—and later in New York City.

Throughout his distinguished career as an Executive Chef in prominent restaurants, he was known for his strong will in the kitchen and his boundless generosity at the dinner table. A "social butterfly" who could befriend anyone, he carried the warmth of the Caribbean with him everywhere he went. He found immense joy in debating American politics over a rum-and-coke, tending to his thriving plants with a gentle green thumb, and ensuring that no one ever left his home hungry. To his family, he was the heart of the "Big Table," where everyone was always welcome.

Family & Legacy

Carl was the devoted father of Samantha, Robert, Diana, and Denise. He was a proud Grandpa to Anika, Janelle, Jordan, and Joshua.

He is survived by his siblings Willie, Leroy, Kenneth, Lyra, and Don, as well as his nephew Dwight and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends across the globe. He was predeceased by his parents, Mignon and Estelle, and by Jasmine Williams.

Service Information

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre (625 Birchmount Rd, Scarborough, ON).

A funeral ceremony to celebrate his life and legacy will take place immediately following at 3:00 PM.

Refreshments will be available after the service to share stories and continue the fellowship that Carl so loved.
